Gloucester Girls v Woking Girls u10 - Saturday 21st March 2009
After the snow storms of the previous year, the weather turned out beautifully this time. There was not a cloud in the sky as the Woking Team took to the field
The pitches had been marked out shorter and a great deal narrower then Woking were used to and this was to have a dramatic impact on our expansive style of play.
Game1: Gloucester A v Woking A 0-0
Hannah Garnett (g), Jasmine Mitchell, Bethany (Biff) Norman-Walker (c), Odette Roberts, Katie Southgate, Valli McAdam and Lucy Hill
The A Team kicked off for the first of four 10 minute games. It was taking time to adjust to the size of the pitch as long balls went from penalty area to penalty area. Lucy was unlucky when her shot hit the Cross Bar. Gloucester favoured the Route One method with a succession of long balls bouncing into our penalty area which Hannah dealt with confidently.
Substitutions saw Bethany Easterman and Alice Curr replace Valli and Katie. Jasmine impressed the vociferous away supporters with her strong defending and fast running. Elizabeth replaced Odette as Woking started to find their way and the attacks started to have some effect. Meanwhile the Woking defence had identified the Gloucester No.6 as a threat and were dealing with it. Gloucester’s Goalkeeper had a good game and time ran out for us as it finished 0-0
Game 2: Gloucester B v Woking B 1-0
Biff Norman-Walker (g), Louisa Bloomfield (c), Lorna Muggeridge, Emily Collett, Katrina Francis, Jessica Clayton, Lucy Chapman
3 on for 15 7 on for17 16 on for 10
Gloucester adapted to the small pitch much quicker then Woking and shot just over with a long range effort. Woking started to play as a team and there was some excellent running off the ball. Working forced a corner but nothing came of it.
Rebecca Smithers, Lena Stroem and Jenna Dunnigan replaced Jessica, Lucy and Lorna.
Play continued with end to end attacks. Rebecca Smithers defended strongly, providing inspiration for others. As time ticked by Gloucester forced another corner. The ball came out and the Gloucester player dribbled into the area and from close range shot at Biff who blocked it but the rebound found its may into the net. Woking went looking to equalise but, once again, time was against us. Gloucester 1 Woking 0
Game 3 Gloucester A v Woking A 0-0
Hannah (g), Jasmine, Odette, Elizabeth, Katie, Valli and Alice
Hannah was to be called upon many times in this game and rose to the occasion. Biff, Lucy and Bethany on for Katie, Jasmine and Lorna. End to end attacks were to be the format again. Gloucester hit the post and then Hannah saved brilliantly from point blank range. Woking countered and forced a corner, taken short by Biff, who then tried to lob the goalie but the ball wouldn’t come down. Katie replaced Bethany. Katie sent in a long throw which was picked up by Odette who shot just wide. Lucy should great skill with a surging run down the right but her cross was not met by a Woking player. Full Time 0- 0
Game 4 Gloucester B v Woking B 0-0
Lucy (g) Rebecca, Lena, Bethany, Lorna, Jessica and Louisa
The management’s choice of Lucy in goal appeared about as sensible as asking a Year 6 to look after a sweet shop; how wrong the crowd were to be. Gloucester were attacking in numbers and had belief that the game was all theirs. Jessica was ferocious in defence and Lucy was fantastic in goal making numerous excellent saves. This seemed to inspire Woking who started to play far more cohesively. Hannah on the left was starting to find her shooting feet.
Katrina, Emily and Lucy on for Lorna, Jenna and Jessica.
G1oucester were peppering the Woking goal but Lucy kept on saving. Woking broke out with a rare attack but couldn’t get a short on Target. Emily remained strong in defence. Whilst Woking mounted more attacks, Gloucester threatened on the counter attacks but Woking’s defence held firm.

Girls' Under 11
My report below refers to this 7-a-side Tournament. |

22 May 2008 12:39:41 |
After success the week before expectations were high. There were a number of new faces in the Squad which was pleasing to see. The opposition included a number of London Boroughs, which implied a tough challenge ahead. Rain fell throughout and a cold wind blew; contrasting conditions from the week before. The games were to be 8 minutes each way.
Woking B v Westminster 6-0
A great start with Odette setting up Chante who shot wide. The pressure kept on and Hannah shot wide. Then a great passing move out of defewnce and Chante scored. From the kick-off, another attack and Chante scored again. Odette intercewpted a Westminster Goal-kick but her shot went wide. From the subsequent goal-kick she intercepted again but this time made no mistake. Lauren then attacked up the right, passed to Chante who scored. The second half brought two more goals from Odette and Lauren

Woking A v Tower Hamlets B 5-0
An early attack saw Eloise pass swiftly to Charlie who opened up her campaign with the first of her amazing five goal haul. Jasmine Mitchell - who had struggled with illness the previous week - was much more alert and was defending well. Tower Hamlets had a shot go over and then Hayley tried a long range effort which went just wide. Charlie had a one-on-one which the goalie saved brilliantly and Hayley closed the first half with another shot going wide.
Jasmine T was replaced by Rachel. A cross from Hayley was handballed and Charlie made no mistake from the spot. From the kick off, Rachel intercepts the ball, Passes to Charlie who surged forward and scores her hat-trick. Hayley is replaced by Kaitlain. An Eloise throw-in sees Charlie send a rocket from the edge of the penalty area; 4-0. Jasmine M was replaced by Jasmine T. Another attack and another goal.

Woking B v Sutton B 0-5
Woking B had no substitutes for the tournament - unlike the other teams, so it was going to get tougher as games went on. This was a game of two halves, except Sutton dominated in both of them! The score line gives no indication of just how brilliant Hannah was in goal where she made a number of brave saves. Lauren was injured which added to their predicament. Woking did have two brief skirmishes into Sutton territory but unfortunately each time resulted in a Sutton breakout and a goal.

Woking A v Sutton A 0-0
A promising start from Woking. Long clearances from Dani helped Woking apply the pressure and there were a lot of shots on the Sutton Goal. Corners were traded by both teams. At half-time Jasmine T. and Hayley were substituted. The end to end play continued and Jasmine Mitchell again made some excellent tackles.

Woking A v Lambeth 0-1
Another fast slowing game with attacks and corners for both sides. A cross from Lambeth saw Dani rush off her line and bravely dive as Lambeth shot. She was injured but after treatment continued on. With Dani still in shock a Lambeth corner was turned in from the edge of the Penalty area. Lambeth grew in confidence and launched a number of attacks but Woking's defence were strong with Bethany clearing balls upfield to relieve the pressure. A Woking corner saw Rachel shoots wide. Then a Lambeth corner was cleared by Bethany. At half time Jasmine T came on fro Eloise. Woking appeared subdued at the start of the second half. Your reporter felt a combination of; a football tournament the evening before, the cold wind and an amazing first game, caused Woking to play this and the previous game in a subdued manner. Whilst they still played well as a team and supported each other there was a sparkle missing that was evident the week before. Woking had to fight to survive and forced a corner early on but this came to nothing. Kaitlin replaced Hayley who once again had run her little heart out in Midfield. Another Woking corner sae the ball come out to the edge of the penalty area. Charlie hit a volley which hooked over everyone and headed for goal and - with the crowd already cheering the goal - the Lambeth goalie appeared from behind a crowd of players to save brilliantly. Charlie and Rachel were working really well together in attack but the opening was just not going to come.

English Schools’ Football Association Inter County 7 a Side Football Festival
Girls under 11, 7-a-side Tournament for The Marex Cup
Saturday 10th May 2008 Waterers park, Knaphill
The last time I reported on a match I had to endure Gales and Snow. This time it was the searing heat of a windless day at Knaphill. It was always going to be the most committed team that was going to win in these conditions.
Woking A v Godalming 2-0
Dani Sen (Goalkeeper), Jasmine Mitchell, Charlie Mason, Eloise Milbourn, Hayley Miles, Beth Norman-Walker (Captain), Jasmine Turner. Kaitlin Howard and Rachel Woods (subs)
The first half was all Woking but no goals resulted. Hayley took a succession of corners but Godalming’s tactic of 7 players in the Penalty area made it difficult to get shots on goal. Dan and Adam demonstrated their management skill by changing Woking’s shape in the 2nd half, in order to draw Godalming out of defense. Jasmine Mitchell and Eloise were rested for the 2nd half. More corners were won and from the second Rachel scored. From another corner Charlie shot just wide. Godalming fell for the new tactics and attempted a break into Woking’s half. Beth intercepted the ball and fired it up to Charlie. Her first shot was parried but her second was a scorcher into the roof of the net.
Woking B v Gloucester B 0-2
Dominique Carrington (GK), Isabel Woods Louisa Bloomfield, Chloe Hobbs, Alice Turner, Lauren Cowl (Capt), Ellie Janes. Sammy Waine and Emily Edser (subs)
Woking survived early Gloucester pressure including a great save by Dominique. Ellie shot wide following a great throw-in by Chloe. From the goal kick Gloucester were quicker, crossed the ball in and scored. Alice and Emily tackled ferociously on the right side. Godalming then tried the long ball and scrambled a second goal. Woking then tried so hard to score. Following a good attack down the left, Alice had her shot well saved. A corner late in the game saw a brilliant ball sent in by Chloe only for Emily to shoot just wide. During this, and all the following B games, your reporter was greatly impressed by the way Chloe motivated the team and lead by example to get the best out of her team mates.
Woking B v Sutton A 0-2
Lauren Cowl (GK), Sammy Waine, Chloe Hobbs (C), Dominique Carrington, Isabell Woods, Alice Turner, Ellie Janes. Louisa Bloomfield and Emily Edser (subs).
Yet again Woking were under attack form the off. They sustained it well and then broke out and Alice shot wide. Sutton nearly scored from far out. Dominique and Chloe were robust in defence and half-time was 0-0. Emily replaced Sammy for the 2nd half. Gloucester shot wide twice and at the third attempt Lauren made an excellent save. Sutton made their breakthrough with a cracking shot close in on the left. Woking bravely pressed for the equalizer but were caught on the break and Sutton scored their second.
Woking A v Frimley Green 1-0
Dani Sen (GK), Charlie Mason, Rachel Woods, Eloise Milbourn, Hayley Miles, Beth Norman-Walker (C), Jasmine Turner. Kaitlin Howard and Jasmine Mitchell (subs)
Woking started the brighter and Rachel’s shot went just wide. Further good pressure saw Charlie also shoot wide. Frimley then turned to attack and forced a corner. This was cleared and the rest of the 1st half was a tight affair. Hayley was working really hard on the right to create opportunities. Kaitlin replaced Eloise and almost immediately she shot wide. The heat was building now and with no scent of a breeze the girls were suffering. With time running out Frimley were on the break. Bethany defended well, passed to Hayley who cracked one of her signature long balls to Rachel, onwards to Kaitlin who drove into the box and forced Frimley to concede an own goal. The referee blew for full time immediately afterwards.
Woking B v Guildford Saints 0-1
Ellie Janes (GK) Louisa Bloomfield, Dominique Carrington Isabell Woods, Chloe Hobbs(C), Alice Turner, Lauren Cowl. Sammy Waine and Emily Edser (subs)
Early Woking pressure forced a corner. Lauren’s shot was saved and she tried a second attempt but was bundled over. No penalty given! Woking won a corner but Guildford broke out, crossed from the left and scored. In the 2nd half Sammy replaced Alice. Guildford broke again but Ellie saved brilliantly. Guildford shot twice more but Ellie was equal to them each time. Woking then applied the pressure and Sammy shot wide. The remainder of the game was in the Guildford half as Woking searched for the equalizer that never came. Your reporter was greatly impressed by the maturity shown by the three Year 4 girls; Sammy, Isabell and Dominque.
------
This concluded the initial league Games. Woking A went through to the Champions League games as the best in their league. There was to be no knock-out games, it would be the best out of Woking A, Guildford and Camberley who would win The Marex Cup. Woking B went through to the Plate Competition.
Woking B v Sutton B 0-0
Dominique Carrington (GK), Chloe Hobbs (C), Isabell Woods, Alice Turner, Ellie Janes. Louisa Bloomfield, Emily Edser . Lauren Cowl and Sammy Waine (subs).
Good early attacks by Woking saw shots by Ellie and Chloe. Terrific running by Alice saw her collect a ball everyone else believed would run out of play. She crossed it to Ellie who should have scored but the goalie saved it. Ellie went in goal for the 2nd half. Dominique and Alice were replaced by Sammy and Lauren. Sutton had the early pressure and shot across the face of goal, forcing a corner. Woking then countered on the left only for Emily to shoot wide. Woking then survived a 4 on 1 attack. Dominique then replaced Emily. The final move of the game saw Chloe collect the ball on the half way line and surge forward all the way into the Sutton penalty area only to see her shot saved.
Woking v Guildford Saints 1-1
Dani Sen (GK), Jasmine Mitchell, Charlie Mason, Eloise Milbourn, Hayley Miles, Beth Norman-Walker (C), Jasmine Turner. Kaitlin Howard and Rachel Woods (subs)
After a long wait, Woking looked a little tired and lethargic as they kicked off. Play was end to end. Beth stopped a Guildford attack and Eloise battled superbly for the ball. Beth found Charlie who then passed to Hayley whose long shot went over. At half-time Rachel replaced Hayley. Guildford started well and had a number of attacks. Beth again thwarted an attack, and then sent a long diagonal pass to Charlie who ran forward and stuck it into the net. Kaitlin replaced Jasmine Turner as Guildford launched more attacks. From a Woking Goal Kick the ball was intercepted and Guildford scored the equalizer. Woking advanced, winning a free kick and then a corner but the referee blew for full-time.
Guildford Saints v Camberley 0-0
Camberley had impressed this reporter for their discipline and shape throughout the tournament. They had yet to concede a goal in this tournament and were on a high after winning the prestigious Butlin's tournament the week before.
It was a tough game between these two sides with opportunities for both. Camberley lost a player to injury following a bruising challenge.
Woking A v Camberley 1-0
Dani Sen (GK), Jasmine Mitchell, Charlie Mason, Eloise Milbourn, Hayley Miles, Beth Norman-Walker (C), Jasmine Turner. Kaitlin Howard and Rachel Woods (subs)
The Woking supporters were in full voice as they felt Woking was going to need a lot of encouragement. Beth thwarted a Camberley attack and started a break out which Eloise finished by shooting just wide. Camberley were jolted into action and put a lot of pressure onto the Woking goal. Dani, who had done so little thus far, was able to demonstrate how valuable she was in this final game as she dived around saving Woking. Another break out saw the ball go down Woking’s right. Hayley and Charlie combined to enter the Camberley Penalty area and with typical perseverance Charlie drove through and shot under the despairing goalie’s dive.
Rachel and Kaitlin replaced Eloise and Jasmine Turner at half-time. Woking, sensible, played three at the back for the whole second half. Camberley started strongly and had 2 shots and 3 corners early on. Woking countered and Charlie saw her shot well saved by the Goalie. Eloise replaced an exhausted Hayley who had run herself into the ground doing sterling work all over the pitch. A static Woking defense was startled into action by their Manager yelling “I didn’t give up my Saturday for you lot to stroll about!”
Jasmine T replaced Jasmine M for the final moments. Woking put pressure on a frustrated Camberley. Kaitlin and Charlie combined brilliantly and Charlie’s shot went just over the bar. Intense Woking defending followed with the home ground gasping and screaming at every turn.
The final whistle blew and Woking had won!!
Woking travel to Lewisham next Saturday, 17th May, to play in their Mayor’s Cup. |

Saturday 22nd March 2008
A 07:30 start; rain, wind and snow, a change of Coaches and the replacement one with a door that kept opening on the Motorway, could have put off Woking Girls. However, they were determined to bounce back from their first defeat - in their last game at Sutton - and show Adam and Dan that all their efforts in training were not going to waste.
Game 1: Gloucester Girls A v Woking Girls A 0 – 2
In a biting wind and with the threat of worsening weather, Woking dominated this first of 4 games. Jasmine Turner scored the opener. Jasmine and Charlie Mason then both sent shots screaming over the bar. Dani Sen, secure as ever in front of goal, sent a goal kick deep into the Gloucester half, it was picked up by Charlie, who turned and shot it into the Gloucester net. Even with the snow falling, Bethany Norman-Walker led strongly as Captain, ably assisted by Isabell Woods at left-back.
Game 2: Gloucester Girls B v Woking Girls B 1 – 3
An excellent start saw Ellie Janes score an early opener. Chloe Hobbs nearly doubled the score with a long range shot that went just wide. Louisa Bloomfield defended well at left-back, despite sustaining a leg injury from a Gloucester player. Gloucester were now attacking relentlessly and Eloise Milbourn - in goal - saved brilliantly by diving at an attacker's feet. There was nothing she could do about the next attack as a Gloucester goal kick went over the heads of the defence and their striker hit it perfectly into the Woking net.
Woking were stirred into action and Dani Sen launched a long-range shot from inside the Woking half which hit the woodwork. Chloe Hobbs went one better as her shot went over the Gloucester Goalkeeper’s head and into the net.
After further attacks, Lauren Cowl’s persistency saw her scramble a ball in at the far post, whilst under pressure.
Game 3: Gloucester Girls A v Woking Girls B 1 – 1
Another early goal for Woking saw Chloe Hobbs fire a cracking shot, from the right hand side of the penalty area, into the far top corner. Ellie Janes then had a great shot saved by the Gloucester keeper; one of many fine saves she made. Chloe and Ellie combined well to almost score shortly afterwards.
Gloucester then built in confidence and it took skilful shadowing, of her opponent, by Louisa Bloomfield which forced her to shoot wide from close range. Nervous times for Woking as a Gloucester corner had the shot go over the bar. The next corner was not cleared properly and the resultant shot, from the edge of the penalty area, saw Bethany Norman-Walker dive full length to her right but was only able to push the ball into the corner of the net. Another Gloucester attack saw their striker dribble past 3 defenders but this time Bethany saved brilliantly. Woking galvanised themselves and Kaitlin Howard was a typical example of the strength shown in defence. Dominque Carrington was appearing everywhere in this game which caused problems for Gloucester and inspiration for Woking. Louisa Bloomfield was a great example of this, gaining valuable ground with repeated long throw-ins down the left. Another great save, right on the edge of her penalty area, by Bethany, denied Gloucester an undeserved victory.
Game 4: Gloucester Girls B v Woking Girls A 1 – 3
With gale force winds - and Snow blowing horizontally across the pitch – it was the bravest team that was going to win this final battle. Hayley Miles’s determined tackling saw her win the ball and then skilfully pass to Charlie Mason who rounded the goalkeeper and sent a rocket into the top corner.
Hayley was unlucky not to score in this game; a shot from inside her half hit the post and later on she connected with the crossbar.
With visibility now limited by the Snow, Woking continued to attack. Jasmine Turner picked the ball up on the half way line and slotted a pass to Charlie on the left, who shot expertly off the outside of her right foot into the corner of the net for her second goal of the game.
Eloise Milbourn was the dynamo in this game as she tore all over the park. Hayley had yet another shot, which the goalie pushed wide. From the resultant corner Charlie’s shot was parried but Rachael Woods was alert and chipped her shot over the goalie into the net.
Bethany played well as the last line of defence but neither her nor Dani Sen – in goal – could prevent Gloucester from securing a consolation goal.
For anyone reading this that was not at the game it is difficult to convey just how atrocious the conditions were. Whilst most of the parents were pleading for abandonment and the security of the clubhouse, the girls fought on bravely and really showed what a great squad they are becoming.
Woking Girls: Louisa Bloomfield, Dominique Carrington, Lauren Cowl (C), Chloe Hobbs, Kaitlin Howard, Ellie Janes, Charlie Mason, Eloise Milbourn, Hayley Miles, Bethany Norman-Walker (C), Dani Sen, Jasmine Turner, Isabell Woods, Rachel Woods.

Woking 3 Newbury 1
Witney Cup Semi Final.
A come from behind win gave Woking their first ever Witney Cup Final appearance. It was a victory for an all round solid team performance and their constant belief in a sound passing game.
The visitors took an early lead as their pace on the break got its reward; Woking however, gradually got their team work together and the sound midfield was soon putting dangerous balls through to the front men; these chances were spurned for a while until the speedy Sean Leach put away the equilizer.
The second half saw the home team mostly in control, although Newbury always looked dangerous on the break, and it took some excellent covering and timing from Tim Richards in the tackle to guard Woking's goal area. Sean Leach got his second to give the home team the lead, and Jamie Collett put his finishing boots on to make the game safe.
Woking 2 Woolwich 1
Gills Trophy Quarter Final.
A memorable morning saw Woking Under 11's field two teams, both coming from behind to progress in cup games.
Woking B had an interesting challenge from the newly formed Woolwich team and prioved to be a very even struggle.
Early on Woking were indebted to the positive heading of Nick Russell, but with play flowing back and forth the visitors took advantage of a scramble in Woking's goal area to take he lead just before half time.
A good second half battle saw the home team equalize with a wonder left foot strike from Conor McWhirr that grazed the underside of the crossbar from fully twenty five yards. Then with extra time beckoning Woking got a free kick just outside the penalty box, up stepped Harry Richardson with a superbly flighted ball and magically James Courtney appeared at the far post to head emphatically into the net and see Woking into a semi final tie against Bexley. |

The View from Gloucester.
Gloucester Schools opened their post-Christmas programme with a win and a draw from their trip to rain-drenched Surrey where they met Woking at Knaphill. Molloy and Hutchinson were prominent in the centre of the Gloucester midfield as the visitors opened brightly, the pair winning good ball and providing a useful supply for spritely strikers Vanstone and Fair. Midway through the opening period the city side produced what proved to be the decisive moment of the game, Molloy's raking pass picking out Vanstone on the right side of the penalty box and the striker conjured an excellent finish to record his 12th goal of the season. Gloucester's pressure produced a number of first half corners, but despite Williams' pinpoint deliveries, the city side could not take advantage. Back came Woking and Gloucester were indebted to keeper Shay Morgan who produced three fine saves before the interval to keep his side ahead. The second period saw both teams create chances with Scurr, who enjoyed a fine game on the left side, going closest for the visitors. Again Woking threatened however, but the city back line of Medway, Beck, Merchant and Berkeley, backed up by Morgan, produced a solid collective display as Gloucester recorded their first clean sheet of the season together with three Cotswold League points that keep them at the head of the table. Gloucester B: Morgan; Merkeley, Medway, Beck, Merchant; Scurr, Williams, Molloy, Hutchinson; Vanstone, Fair. Sub: Byard.
Gloucester's A Squad had captain Spencer Hamilton to thank for a late equaliser that extended their recent unbeaten run to eight matches. Woking opened the better, stronger in midfield and neater up front and they deservedly forged ahead with a well worked goal, the ball being knocked in from the right and as the defence backed off, Collett drilled the ball under Borg to give them a ninth minute lead. The visitors responded, Wooster going close following Hamilton's right wing cross, before Porter did very well to turn Kotwica's well struck drive over the bar. With the rain continuing to fall and surface water covering virtually all areas of the pitch good football was impossible, but it was the city team that were the stronger in the second half, though Woking defended with skill and determination throughout. With just two minutes remaining Gloucester finally made the breakthrough, McMahon's inswinging corner being flicked on by Preedy for Hamilton to force home the equaliser from inside the six yard box. A draw was a fair result from this game with Woking being the better side in the first half and Gloucester in the second and with three players from each side completing their Gold Water Survival awards over the course of the game, honours were well and truly shared. Gloucester A: Morgan; Watts, Keightley, Vallender, Williams, Longuet-Higgins; Hamilton, Preedy, McMahon; Kotwica, Wooster.

On Wednesday 1st November St. Dunstan's Catholic Primary School won the Inter Schools Football Tournament at Woking Park.
The team for St. Dunstan's was Jack O'Callaghan, Luke Middleton, Connor Tune, Connor Moore, Henry O'Callaghan, Jacob Hutchinson, Daniel Cranstone, James Kear and me, Conor McWhirr.
St.Dunstan's first played West Byfleet, this was a scoreless draw in a very tight match.
Our second match was against Christ Church. We thought that this would be our hardest match but we did well and drew again, just like last year.
The third match against The Marist could have been our last. We had to win by more than one goal to go through to the semi-finals so I drilled one into the back of the net, then Connor Moore slotted another.
The semi-final was against Broadmere School and straight away Luke Middleton scored two, but then Broadmere scored two, so at full time the score was all square at two all. The match went into extra time and in the dieing minutes Luke finished his hatrick with a classic goal.
The final was St.Dunstan's v Pirbright. We had played Pirbright before, but that was a whole year ago so they had grown as a team. In the first half there were no goals but in the second half Connor Tune played a long ball to Luke Middleton who scored. St.Dunstan's won even though Pirbright had lots of good chances.
St.Dunstan's now represent Woking in the next round of the tournament on Saturday 18th November. |

Pyrford vs Greenfield
On 3rd November Pyrford were playing for there third victory against rivals Greenfield. The team consisted of Luke Jones, Max Stewart, Craig Sutherland, Robert Gormley, Luke Coleman, Gus Cockle, Tom Read and Nick Christie. It started off being a fight for the ball as both teams were wanting to get it in the opponents box. Pyrford started with the most posession but Greenfield had got up the field and had a few chances. In the last 15 minutes or so Pyrford popped up with 3 goals. After the suprising 3 goals the half time whistle blew.
The second half started with Greenfield having more possesion. In the starting 10 minutes another goal appeared from a kick upfield that Tom Reed booted into the back of the net! Then there was another goal which Luke Jones hit right into the top corner.
In the last 10 minutes a clumsy tackle by a Greenfield player which ment captain Luke Coleman limping off the pitch. The free kick was taken by Luke Jones which swerved but the goalie palmed it down. It was a good chance. Greenfield had a few more chances but still couldn't score. Greenfeild couldn't do enough as the full time whistle blew. at the end it was 5 nil to Pyrford. |

Woking Football Club Year 3 & 4 Tournament
Friday 30th September PYRFORD WIN THE CUP!
On Friday 30th September, our school took part in a Year 3 six-a-side football tournament in Woking Park and won.
The Pyrford team was: Thomas Oates (goalkeeper); Flynn Parker; George Tuohy; Tom Daly; George Bourne; Matthew Cornwell and William Hodson.
We played four matches in Group 1 and came top with ten points out of a possible twelve and St. Johns came top of Group 2.
In the first game, we drew 0-0 against West Byfleet Juniors. In the second match, we played Goldsworth and won 1-0, when Matthew scored after a brilliant one-two with William.
Then we played Byfleet and won 1-0 again. This time, William was the scorer and Matthew set him up. Tom did some good dribbling to set Matthew up for a shot, which he just missed. Last, we played the Marist and won 5-0, thanks to a hat-trick by Matthew and a goal each from George T and William.
That meant we were in the final because we won three and drew one. In second place was West Byfleet who won two and drew two.
The final was against St. Johns, which we won 3-0 with goals from George T, William and Matthew. George B also hit a great shot, which hit the bar and bounced onto the line and then out.
Flynn was a great defender for us because he is strong and booted the ball back up the field for the attackers.
Thomas Oates was our goalie and didn?t let in a single goal. In the final, he did a great save when the score was 1-0 and returned the ball so quickly; this helped Matthew set William up for the second goal.
All the team played really well and came away with a well-deserved victory.
On Saturday 29th October the Pyrford team was invited to Woking Football club to watch the home game against Halifax town and have their trophy presented to them at half time on the pitch. It was a very exciting and enjoyable day for them. |

Surrey Schools\' F.A. Under 11 League
Woking vs. Croydon 4 - 1
In the bright sunshine at Reddng Way Woking once again took on Croydon for the second week running in the Sydney Black Trophy.
The home team were still basking in the glory of last week\'s victory and found themselves a goal down early on after some sloppy defending and poor decision making around the edge of the box.
Croydon inspired by the goal continued to press hard but were kept at bay by some resolute midfield play from Bradley Thomas, Bradley Pegg, Adam Hitch, Oliver Qunn and Alex Veljovic which saw Woking slowly claw their way back into the game. Just before half time Woking mounted their first real attack. Joshua Swords took a free kick from the right and Adam Hitch lurking on the far post glanced the ball into the net for the equaliser.
During the half time interval Coach Steve Moss did some hard talking to stir the boys into action. Woking came out for the second half a different team. Playing their magnificent close passing game they totally dominated the half. Bradley Thomas took a free kick from just outside the left corner of the penalty box and fired the ball straight into the top right-hand corner of the goal leaving the Croydon keeper flapping at thin air.
The Woking dominance continued with Tim Downes receiving a through ball from midfield, he looked up saw the keeper off his line and flicked a delicate lob over his head.
Joshua Swords picking up the ball in the centre circle went on one of his magical runs down the right wing and with some deft footwork avoided four or five lunging tackles before cutting into the box to fire a hard low shot into the bottom corner.
A hard fought game and deserved victory sets Woking up for their Easter Tour to the English Schools Football Association North Tyneside Festival of Football were they play Leeds, Hull and Newcastle. |

Croydon under 11's bowed out of the Surrrey Schools F.A. Lancaster Cup, losing by a solitary goal, in the semi - final on saturday, in an away match against Woking Schools.
Croydon - weakened by njuries - found themselves penned in ther own half for the first fifteen minutes. Sloppy defending allowed Woking to take the lead but Croydon went close to equalising when a teasing cross from Matt Wilkinson brought the Woking 'keeper into action.
The Woking 'keeper made a fine save from Louis John and Wilkinson proved a handful. Croydon captain, Brady Almandras had an outstanding game in Croydon's back four, keeping Woking's chances to a minimum in the second half |

Lancaster Cup Semi Final Replay
Woking vs. Croydon 1 - 0
Woking took early control of this entertaining encounter but were unable to convert early dominance into goals. Croydon found themselves pinned into their own half almost continually for the first half. Some sloppy defending by the Croydon defence allowed Joshua Swords to fire in a deep cross from the right to the far post, & found Robbie Partridge unmarked on the edge of the six yard box and he guided the ball into the corner of the net.
This fired Croydon into positive action and a teasing cross from Croydon's Matthew Wilkinson brought a fine save from Woking's Jonathan Henly.
The second half continued in the same dominant fashion with Woking continuing to dominate but unable to convert pressure into goals. Croydon gradually got into the game causing some resolute defending from James Clements, Bradley Pegg and Adam Hitch.
Woking held firm and won a deserved hard fought victory to see them into the final of the Surrey Schools' F.A. Under 11 Challenge Cup where they will play Sutton. |

WOKING vs. GLOUCESTER
The Witney Cup 2nd Round
Saturday 20th November by Leonard Cohen.
Gloucester Schools slipped out of the Witney Cup at the second round stage as a very good Woking side triumphed 4-2 at Knaphill. There was little to choose between the two teams early on, but the hosts took the lead on ten minutes with the game\'s first effort on goal, Bradley Thomas firing a fine strike into the top corner from just outside the box as the Gloucester defence backed off. The visitors though responded well and when Tom Warren\'s right wing corner was flicked on by Ben Wasley, Niall Wellington arrived at the far post to fire in the equaliser. Woking regained the initiative five minutes later however as Joshua Swords crossed from the right and Tim Downes rolled in the cross. Another Warren corner caused problems for the home defence and after both Jamie Edge and Jon Blackwell had had efforts blocked, Callum Drummond fired just over. Six minutes after the interval Woking extended their lead, Swords\' trickery drew the visitor\'s defence to the right and Downes had little difficulty in converting his cross. Back came Gloucester and after a fine individual goal from Wellington brought the deficit back to one, the city team pushed forward in search of an equaliser. Callum Francis and Edge prompted well from midfield, while Blackwell\'s non-stop running and setting up play proved a handful for the home defence throughout. Twice Gloucester came close to a leveller in this period, but with just four minutes remaining, Woking sealed the tie. With time running out the visitors took a quick free kick which was siezed upon by Thomas and the midfielder hoisted the ball over Foran from fully 35 yards to seal a semi final clash with Swindon. |

Woking vs. Newbury The Berkshire League
Saturday 13th November 2004
After a very long coach journey last week, and a solid 3-1 win against favourites Swindon in the Southern Counties Cup, it was a strong Woking Team which produced an excellent Home win to keep top spot in the Berkshire League against previously unbeaten second place Newbury.
From the kick-off the team showed confident passing and direct football, quickly going into a 2 - 0 lead. Because Woking took control of the match so quickly, it allowed substitutes to come on early, and regularly throughout the game.
Whilst the whole team played well, Joshua Swords (Swordy) was particularly comfortable on the ball, and used his space well to create scoring chances, giving him four good goals at least. (we\'re not sure exactly how many, though!!!).
The second half brought even further changes in positions with central defender James Clements playing up front (and scoring two goals!!!), and our goalkeeper Jonathan Henley (who had nothing to do in the first half) swapping places with scoring centre-forward Tim Downes. Jonathan\'s adventurous forward play and persistent tackling kept the pressure on the Newbury defence, and he did everything that could be expected of him. except score !!!
At the other end, his replacement, Tim, made a few solid saves, but was unable to stop a good through-ball from being chipped high by a Newbury forward, just dipping into the back of the net.
It is pleasing that we were flexible enough to make many changes, yet still kept the pressure on till the final whistle with a 12 - 1 win, which certainly helps our goal difference !!!

The match began, Woking started strongly considering that we had the wind against us. Woking continued strongly, not frightened to pass it back to their defence or keeper. Then there was a long ball from midfield and Joshua Swords, once again sprinted onto a perfectly weighted ball. Just before half time Woking gave a way a free kick on the edge of the box. A good strike from Wandsworth was brilliantly saved by Jonathan Henly, however, the ball fell to the opposition who headed the ball into the goal mouth. It was only half cleared and Wandsworth managed to claw a goal back 2 - 1 at half time.
The second half saw some changes with all three substitutes coming on.
As we started the second half Tim Downes started his scorng streak with two more goals, oops sorry!, not including the fluky cross that turned into a stunning goal!
